According to reports in India, monkeys in the villages of Majalgaon and Lavul were enraged by the killing and have acted out a brutal vengeance over the past month
Revenge-driven monkeys killed 250 dogs by throwing them from buildings and trees, it has been claimed.
The spate of fatal attacks is said to have been carried out by furious primates after a pack of dogs mauled a baby monkey to death.
According to reports in India, monkeys in the villages of Majalgaon and Lavel in the western state of Maharashtra were enraged by the killing and have acted out a brutal vengeance over the past month.
Once the puppy population had been wiped out in Lavel, the primates turned their fury on children, witnesses claim.
Villagers told the News18 website that packs of monkeys had been seen surrounding dogs, dragging them to high places.
The dogs were then dropped to their deaths, it is reported.
One picture appears to show a monkey carrying a puppy to the edge of a building, while separate footage shows chases between dogs and primates in the streets.
Locals have intervened themselves in attempts to save the dogs, it is reported, with some suffering injuries themselves.
And as tempers boiled over, an eight-year-old child is said to have been dragged away by the monkeys.
The child was only saved when villagers launched stones at the animals.
